The conflict led to the Creek Indian War. Finally, in 1832, a treaty was signed. It was at the time of the Treaty that Barbour County and Eufaula were created. Eufaula was then known as Irwinton for General William Irwin. The name change came because of confusion with a Georgia city of the same name.
