History & History Related Items

Prattville was named for Daniel Pratt, an early resident and businessman here. He was born in New Hampshire, and later came to Georgia to build homes. While in Georgia, he partnered with Samuel Griswold, a cotton gin manufacturer. When the company wanted to expand into Alabama in 1835, he purchased a large quantity of land which would eventually become downtown Prattville. He started up a number of businesses and built affordable homes for the people. Prattville began to grow and prosper as the businesses grew.
