Snead is located in the northeast corner of Blount County. The distance to the Marshall and Etowah County lines is only approx. 2 miles. Snead is located in a very good agricultural area as it is on the lover edge of Sand Mountain. The first settlement and businesses were established in 1853 and nave strived since to become a prosperous community. Mr. John Jackson received a land grant in the area in 1853 and started the community. In this time period, the east edge of Blount county joined Creek and Cherokee indian territory. The first industry was a flour and grist mill build by Dr. White in 1874. He build a store at the same time. The store was of the general type in the early rural American country. They sold dry goods, feed, seed, fertilizer and food items. Dr. White adopted a nine year old negro boy and raised him to manhood. Later he came under the influence of an evil white man and burned Dr. White's store and shot the doctor. In 1882 John Snead was the first Postmaster. The town was organized as a municipality in the 1960's and has a Water, and sewer system, parks and swimming pool. Home industries have moved into the area and growth is very evident.
