Wedowee was named for an Indian chief "Wah-wah-nee" or "Wah-dow-wee," whose village stood near the present site of the town. It became the county seat for Randolph County in 1835

Lake Wedowee
Completed in 1982 as an Alabama Power Company reservoir, Lake Wedowee has more than 272 miles of shoreline and covers approximately 10,660 acres in area. All types of outdoor recreation are available here including boating, skiing, sailing, swimming,picnicking hiking and just relaxing! Fishing is the best with Largemouth Bass, Spotted Bass and Crappie!
