The Rison House
The Rison house was a civil war headquarters, but it has a more interesting history also. The house was a pony express stop, a boarding house and itís been said to have been a house of ill repute, but this fact has not been confirmed. The house is still lived in today, indoor plumbing and a slightly more modern kitchen were added at some time. I was talking to my momís uncle, telling about the 100 year old house we rented in Perryville, and he told me that I had some ancestors that had been hung at or near the house. He went on to say they had a run-in with the James gang. My ancestors were not the best of character, and as a result of a shoot out with the strangers passing through town (the James gang), my kinfolk shot a bystander and was hung for it. How much of this is true I canít say, but my momís uncle knew the name of the house without me telling him. The house is still being rented out and lived in today. (2001) The Trail of Tears is said to have passed with in a short distance from the house, and the grave yard is still out there in good repair. You can see the logs used when it was first built especially in the attic. I think there was still an old feather mattress up there also.
