Remembrances of Rondo
This is an old back roads city, quite small. One well known familyRout there is "the Wolfs" Bud Wolf has lived there his whole life. His mother lived there her whole life. Almost everyone in Rondo knows Bud Wolf, or you can ask for his son. Danny wolf. This town is very friendly. Bud lives at the end of the road that is just left of the main cemetery gate. He is all the way at the end on the right. Rondo cemetery is a very quiet, natural cemetery. It has a really old tank inside of it that everyone in the area has grown up playing inside the rusted out old guy. There is also some other kind of gun out there on wheels, and all the cranks etc. still work. There is a caretaker house in the gates on the right. My cousins, Danny and Toni Wolf lived there for quite awhile. Behind the house is an old concrete slab for displaying bodies outside in an upright, more or less, position. Behind that, there is a mortuary, I believe. Never seen anyone near it, probably closed for years.

There is a cemetery in Rondo that has some very interesting history. Local elders tell of its being the Confederate capital of Arkansas for a short time. It was at this cemetery where a troop of soldiers camped & later died after battle, from an epidemic of Black Measles. We found 17 headstones....barely legible, cracked & weathered, but obviously very significant.... all unknown soldiers. The tombstones were all dated near the same day & placed in a straight & compact line, next to the spring where they washed their clothes, as if they were dominoes & had fallen directly into their pre-dug graves.

This includes all people in or out of Rondo and could involve any interested adults or children with events or items that are of interest. Items may be submitted for publication on this page where they will remain as part of a historical archive for the city. Items of interest may include noteworthy events, special events of historical importance, information about area growth that pertains to the history of the city, and other pertinent notes. We hope to establish a large data base of information about the history of each city. Historical Societies are encouraged to open their own page on Key to the City for more extensive historical information.
