Summit is one of five officially incorporated cities in Marion County, Arkansas. Before it was incorporated as a city, it was known unofficially as North Yellville. In the early 1900's, a group of residents met and petitioned to become a city. The city is located on top of a hill overlooking the neighboring city of Yellville, hence that is how the citizens came up with the name of Summit. The Missouri and Northern Arkansas Railroad runs through the center of the city, which used to be a center point for passenger trains that ran on the line until the mid 1960's. The city of Summit was officially incorporated on 2 June 1917.

Area attractions include Bull Shoals Dam and state park, Buffalo National River, and the annual Turkey Trot festival that is held in the neighboring city of Yellville. The waterways surrounding Summit are a great place to fish, float, or just relax and have fun.

Summit is the 4th largest city in Marion County. It is located in the center of the county and borders the county seat. Scenic highway 14 leads into Summit from the north and south. State highway 202 leads into Summit from the east and west. Summit is a great town to live in, because of its business for such a small town. Summit is home to a major bank branch, a grocery store and gas station, a state of the art automotive repair center, a hair salon, a tax and bookkeeping service, a car dealership, and a restaurant.
