Welcome To KEY TO THE CITY's Page For
Marion County, Arkansas
Summit is one of five officially incorporated cities in Marion County, Arkansas. Before it was incorporated as a city, it was known unofficially as North Yellville. In the early
1900's, a group of residents met and petitioned to become a city. The city is located on top of a hill overlooking the neighboring city of Yellville, hence that is how the citizens came up with the name of Summit. The Missouri and Northern Arkansas Railroad runs through the center of the city, which used to be a center point for passenger trains that ran on the line until the mid 1960's. The city of Summit was officially incorporated on 2 June 1917.
