Here is some "Beverly Hills Trivia!"
On the corner of Santa Monica Blvd. and Wilshire, where the Beverly Hilton now stands, was a Flying A gas station owned by the Associated Oil Company. On the property where Robinson's Dept. Store is now was a golf driving range.
50 feet south of the corner of Beverly Blvd. and La Cieniga Blvd. in the middle of the road (La Cieniga) was an active oil well and derrick. Motorists had to drive around it to get to the north and/or the south. It was there until the mid 50's.
On the property where the Beverly Center Shopping Mall is was a small amusement park where Beverly Hills residents (celebrities) took their children to ride on the rides and the ponies until sometime in the 1960's. Across the street from the amusement park was the "Tail of the Pup" which was a famous hot dog stand. A large hotel stands there today. (Submitted by an "old-timer" resident)
