Not far from Cambria is the famous town of San Simeon and "Hearst Castle."

There is a state park and beach just below Hearst Castle called, William R. Hearst Memorial State Beach. The park offers picnic areas with grass and also a 1,000 foot long fishing pier. It is near San Simeon Creek with 134 campsites.

The "Castle" sits over-looking the Pacific Ocean in the Santa Lucia Mountains five miles inland and 1,600 feet above San Simeon Bay. This magnificent building was crafted from 1922 to 1947 with 165 rooms and 127 acres of gardens. It's actual name is: La Cuesta Encantada or the Enchanted Hill. It's builder and owner was William Randolph Hearst of newspaper fame. It is now run by the state as a historical monument. from 1922 until 1947craftsmen labored to create an estate of 165 rooms and 127 acres of gardens and pools 4445
