The climate for Dorris is dry with warm summers and mild winters. There is little snowfall and when it does fall, it melts quickly. The sun shines around 275 days every year. History & History Related Items Dorris history: Here is a history page for the Butte Valley. As was typical of the western United States, Dorris was settled in 1907 due to the railroad coming through the area. It was named for Presley Dorris of the D Ranch. Some of the buildings from Picard, four miles away, were moved to Dorris after the formation of the town. This was a long and difficult process using logs and poles.
