An early settler, Amaziah L. Knox, built a commercial building at Magnolia and Main in 1876 which was used as a home and hotel. Other buildings came later and the area evolved into the El Cajon business district. The central city area was incorporated on November 12, 1912

The 55 Squadron of the USAF Auxiliary/Civil Air Patrol holds a weekly meeting at our squadron HQ located at Gillespie Field. We are the local auxilliary of the USAF, and we are active in emergency services, aerospace education and cadet programs for youth. Please stop by on Tuesday evenings at 1830 hrs.
