1882 to 1902
Happyland
Happyland is the district bordering the intersection of Hathaway and 'A' Street. From 1882 to 1902 this was the site of the Happyland Dairy and Horse Farm. This concern ended in bankruptcy, after a shipment of horses sent to supply the Rough Riders in the Spanish American War was diverted to Bolivia by a corrupt ranchero. Payment was never made to the Happyland Farm, and the dairy cattle had to be sold to meet obligations.
