The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad came through in 1847. In 1885 when the depot was finished, the area was officially named Hesperia. The same year, Joseph Widney purchased the township and soon formed the Hesperia Land and Water Company. He, then, laid out the old townsite and Hesperia began.

Held each fall in celebration of the area heritage. There is a rodeo, parade, activities and ending with a fireworks display.
