Huntington Beach, California Historical Events



1992
New stronger pier opened made of reinforced steel with concrete coated epoxy protection. It is 1,853 feet long and was designed to look like the old 1914 style pier.


1990
Pier is torn down in preparation for new pier. Storms caused great damage over a period of years that took its toll.
1940
A new extension is built to the HB pier after a hurricane cause a portion of the pier to collapse in 1939. The pier is now 1,822 feet long.


1914
New pier constructed after first one partially destroyed in 1912 storm. This new pier is the longest pleasure pier in the US and is made of concrete. It is 1,350 feet long


1904, July 4
First Red Cars & City Name Change
On July 4, 1904, the first Red Cars of the Pacific Electric rolled in to the new city and its name was changed to Huntington Beach. The first pier was built of wood, extending 1,000 into the ocean.
