History & History Related Items Nipomo history: Nipomo became a stopover along the California Mission Route - El Camino Real. It is located between the Santa Barbara Mission and Mission San Luis Obispo. Initially, the area was part of a 38,000 acre ranch which was privately owned. Agriculture still dominates the area with citrus orchards, vegetable farms and nurseries abounding. The non-native, Blue Gum Eucalyptus Trees were planted in large numbers in this area to be grown for hardwood, but the venture was unsuccessful as far as lumber was concerned. Built in 1839, the Dana Adobe is one of the buildings erected by the mission Indians here. Nipomo attractions: Great pictures and more about Nipomo. Black Lake Golf Course - the only 27 hole golf resort in the area. There are three, nine-hole courses for all skill levels.
