It is located between the Santa Barbara Mission and Mission San Luis Obispo. Initially, the area was part of a 38,000 acre ranch which was privately owned. Agriculture still dominates the area with citrus orchards, vegetable farms and nurseries abounding. The non-native, Blue Gum Eucalyptus Trees were planted in large numbers in this area to be grown for hardwood, but the venture was unsuccessful as far as lumber was concerned.
