History & History Related Items
Rosamond was established in 1877 and named for the daughter of a Southern Pacific Railroad official. The railroad owned the townsite. First industries in town were mining and cattle. Later, during the 1890's, gold was discovered. Miners thronged to the area to strike it rich. The industry waned for many years, but had a small boom in the 1930's. It was also during this time that Muroc Army Air Field was established. It is now known as Edwards Air Force Base.
Here is a good history page from the Rosamond Town Council.
