The San Jacinto Rancho was a gigantic Spanish grant which extended from the mountains to Corona. The grant from the Mexican government was to the Don Jose Antonio Estudillo family in 1842. This family remained basically alone in the valley for many years. When others finally starting moving to the area, he sold off portions of his holdings, eventually deciding to begin a town. In 1868, the first school was built. In 1884, the first newspaper in the county, the San Jacinto Register, began to publish issues. In 1888, San Jacinto was incorporated.
