History & History Related Items Saratoga history: Saratoga was originally called McCartysville for the man who built a toll road for the lumber wagons. When a gristmill was opened nearby, the name was changed to Bank Mills. Later, when mineral springs were located nearby, the locals decided to rename it again after Saratoga, New York, which also had rich mineral springs.
