The town was named for the Spanish word for willows, though it is not in correct form as Sausalito. The springs here were the major source of water for San Francisco for many years. The hidden coves here were home to whaling ships. Today Sausalito is an Artist's haven and major crafters area. There are many beautiful homes in the area as people live here and commute into the metropolitan San Francisco area for work.
