History & History Related Items St Helena history: This area has always been primarily agricultural and rural. It was first settled in 1834 as part of the Vallejo Land Grant. It was first incorporation on 24 March 1876 and then, reincorporated on 14 May 1889. One of the founding fathers of St. Helena, California is Augustus Tainter. He donated land to the city. There is a Tainter St. in St. Helena named after him.
