The Stockton Ports
minor league baseball
The Ports began back in 1941 as the Stockton Flyers. Due to World War II, games were stopped until 1946 when the Flyers were renamed the Stockton Ports. The had one of the longest minor league win streaks in history in 1947 when they won 26 games in a row. The POrts disbanded after the 1972 season but came back in 1978 with an affiliation of the Seattle Mariners. They were named the Mudville Nine in 2000 and 2001 in commemoration of the team in the Ernest Thayer poem of the same name. They returned to the Stockton Ports name in 2002. In 2005 they became affiliated with the Oakland Athletics.
