History & History Related Items Union City history: Here is a history page for Union City. Union City was settled in 1850 when John and William Horner laid out a town which they called Union City. The name is said to have come from their Sacramento River steamer named, "The Union." Many of the early settlers were gold miners who never struck it rich and found better profits in the growing of food products here in the area than they ever made in mining. When Union City was incorporated, it also included the towns of Alvarado, Decoto and New Haven. The above history pages tells a little background on each of these communities. Union City began with just three families and has grown greatly over the years to almost around 64,000 residents. Return to Index Union City attractions: Learn more about Union City at this site.
