George Calvert Yount is the founder of Yountville. He came here from North Carolina. He was the first white settlers n the valley. He worked with the local Wappo Indians to build a mill and in 1855, laid out a city. The new city was named Sebastopol. The name could not be kept, however, because there was another city in Sonoma County by that name. Two years after Yount died, in 1867, the town was renamed to honor him. Here is a
