History & History Related Items Avon history: The Avon area was first a hunting and fishing ground for the local Ute Indians. The first settlers came around 1874. The area was named by the early English settlers who thought it resembled the Avon River Valley back in their native Englahd. Avon remained active and thriving for many years before it was incorporated as a town on 24 February 1978. It continues to be a growing area today. Here is a history page for Avon.
