Bailey, Colorado Historical Events

2006, September 26
A gunman took six students hostage in a classroom at the high school in Bailey. He released the girls one by one and used them as human shields He had released all but two of the girls before he shot and killed one girl and then killed himself as a SWAT team attempted to rescue the last two hostages. He had threatened to set off a bomb but later, nothing explosive was found in the backpack.

2006, March 18
The Coney Island Hot Dog Stand, a building shaped like a giant hot dog, was moved from Aspen Park to Bailey. It was first built in 1966 in Denver and called the Boardwalk at Coney Island. By 1970, the 14 ton building was moved to Conifer. In 1999, it was sold to a group that moved it to Bailey. The stand is so popular that the line often runs outside of the diner.
