A Mr. Calvert was the rail superintendent of the railroad in this area. Because of this, all mail was sent in care of him, thus, the siding became known as Calvert. His brother-in-law was a man named Henry Bascom Fleming. He came here to sell land to the settlers through the Lincoln Land Co. The company gave 240 acres to Mr. Fleming just west of the siding which he, in turn, deeded over for a townsite. The town was named for him.
