Holly began in 1871 when Mr. Hiram S. Holly started up his SS Ranch here. Holly was named for this man who served with the Twenty-Eighth Connecticut Volunteer Infantry. He came to Colorado after he was discharged and began to work cattle. He sold out in 1883 to an English Company named the Arkansas Land and Cattle Company.
