The geography for Monte Vista is nearby mountains in the east tower over 14,000 feet. Ranges in the west are somewhat lower. In the valley, the altitude ranges from 7,500 to 8,000 feet and is mostly flat land.

The weather in Monte Vista is seasonal. The winters have light snow which falls frequently. It is usually cold during the winter months. In the summertime, the temperature usually ranges from the mid 80's to the 40's. Most of the precipitation falls from April through October. Generally, this precipitation is in the form of afternoon showers.
