Here is a history page for Pitkin. founded by Frank Curtiss, George P.Chiles and Wayne Scott in early 1879. First known as Quartzville, Pitkin was a mining camp. In fact, it was the first one west of the Continental Divide. At the time of its incorporation on August 11, 1879, it was renamed Pitkin after Governor Frederick W. Pitkin.
