History & History Related Items Bristol history: Bristol was incorporated as a town on 17 May 1785 and later as a city in 1911. During the 1800’s, Bristol was known as a clock city and is now the home of the American Clock and Watch Museum. Later, it was called the Bell City due to a spring-driven doorbell manufactured here. It also was known as the Mum City because of its former dominance as a chrysanthemum producer. The city still holds a Mum Festival each year.
