History & History Related Items Guilford history: Guilford was settled in 1639 but was known as Menunkatucket at that time. The Borough of Guilford and the Town of Guilford were combined in 1939. The Borough, which had been incorporated in 1815, was merged into the town and did not officially exist after 1939.
