New Castle history:

New Castle was the first capital of the state of Delaware. It was also one of Delaware's first settlements. Because of its good harbor, it was a busy port for years until Wilmington's harbor became more used due to its closeness to Philadelphia.

Three signers of the Declaration of Independence lived here: George Read, Thomas McKean and George Ross, Jr.
