Levi and Catherine Coffin were Quakers opposed to slavery. Their home in Fountain City, Indiana was known as the Grand Central Station of the Underground Railroad. Simeon and Rachael Halliday, characters in "Uncle Tom's Cabin", are based on the Coffins.
