Camilla was named for Camilla Mitchell, the granddaughter of General Henry Mitchell. Mitchell County was named for General Mitchell who was a leader during the Revolutionary War.. The town was incorporated in 1858 and was named the county seat of Mitchell County one year after the county's founding.
