The following large, unincorporated communities were merged together with Augusta, under the name of Augusta to became Georgia's second consolidated city when it merged with Richmond County in 1996 - East Boundary, parts of Martinez, South Augusta and West Augusta.
As the result, Augusta has become Georgia's 2nd largest city (with the 1998 population estimate of 187,689).

Cedar Grove Plantation
The main house of the Cedar Grove Plantation was constructed on what is now the grounds of Our Savior Episcopal Church, 4227 Columbia Road in Martinez. The
house, now named Stuart Hall, is probably the oldest existing structure in the community.
