Founder's Day
Place: Town Square
Time: 10 am to 12 midnight
Sponsored by: Newington Founder's Day Committee
Founder's Day is a celebration of Newington's birth. The event kicks off with a parade at 11:00am and there are arts and crafts throughout the day in town square. One of the highlights for the youth is the ping pong ball drop. Ping pong balls are dropped from an airplane and they are marked with prizes, etc. There is a antique car show, gun show, motorbike show, racing go-kart show, history of Newington show, gospel singing and a lot more during the day. The event winds down with a concert from 8:00pm till midnight (last year, 1997, it was the "Swingin Medallions", not sure who this year, 1998) and a excellent fireworks display.
