Porterdale, Georgia Community Events

2000, October 28
Place - Porterdale - Downtown
Time: 9:00 am
Sponsored by: "Let's Sweep It Clean!"
"Let's Sweep It Clean!" is the name of a ten-year revitalization program developed by Kay Piper for the former mill village of Porterdale, her hometown. There are various elements included in this community improvement effort including the revitalization of the downtown area, development of a home maintenance assistance program for the City's financially-challenged elderly homeowners, establishment of a Literacy Chapter and an After School Program.

The "Old Fashioned Fall Festival" is the annual fund raiser and includes a huge parade, an Arts & Crafts Festival and Food Court, live on-stage entertainment, and a Tour of Homes of restored mill homes in this former model mill village designed as a planned urban development. Step back in time and stroll the sidewalks as you view turn-of-the-century homes and churches. See the 100 year old cotton mill situated on the Yellow River that is about to be converted to loft apartments/retail shops/restaurants.
