History & History Related Items Snellville history: Here is a history page for Snellville. Snellville was founded by two men, James Sawyer and Thomas Snell, who left England around 1874. They eventually settled into this area opening a general store similar to one that had run in England. The business prospered and grew, eventually needing expansion. The two men differed on this subject and ended their partnership, both continuing to run stores in town. A post office was opened in 1885 with Sawyer as the first postmaster, running the office out of the back of his store. Sawyer died in 1946 after retiring from his store business. Snell died of complications of appendicitis at only 39 years of age. Snellville was chartered in 1923 with Gladston Snell as the first Mayor. Snellville attractions: T.W. Briscoe Park Return to Index
