1940's to 1960's
My Great Grandparents Robert "Rob" Leonard BROWN and Mabel FRANKLIN, lived in Summertown, GA. They owned a boarding house and soup kitchen that housed and fed 40 tenants. My mother was born in their home in Summertown, to their daughter Elizabeth BROWN, and my grandfather Henry Goodwin SMITH, who is the son of Guy Barrett SMITH.
My mother said to me when I was a child that with a nickel, she could buy a "moon pie" and a "coca-cola" from the little store about one half of one mile away from the small home she stayed in. My mother's mother, Elizabeth BROWN, died in 1949, and my mother came to live with her Grandparents, Mabel and Robert BROWN. She worked for the boarding house, and that is where she met my father, James W. JOHNSON (1924-1990) from Bearden, TN. He was a veteran of WWII, and had been a POW in WWII.
