Belmond Historical Events
1966, October 14
Devastating Tornadoes
One of the largest tornadoes in history devastated Belmond on October
14 1966. The tornado stuck in the afternoon while most children were still in
school. It killed four people and destroyed most of the town. I remember the
date well as it was the day before my fourth birthday.
