Almont area - Almont has had a long and colorful history dating
back to the first settlers in Iowa who learned from and lived next to
the Native Americans. The first settlers came to the Almont area
looking for furs and minerals. However, the furs ran out and they
didn't find much in minerals, but they did find rich soil.
Around 1850, farms sprang up everywhere and Almont was built to be a
US Post Office. In the late 1800's a rail road shipping yard was
located at Almont to transport cattle and hogs to Chicago.
