Return to Index History & History Related Items Humeston history: Alva Humeston came to the area in 1864, working a large farm near what is now Humeston. The CB&Q Railroad bought 80 acres on the northeast side of the farm to build a town. They named it Humeston for the man from whom they purchased the acreage. He was said to be a good, Christian man who set a good example for everyone around. He died at his son-in-law's home on 29 May 1889 in Fairfield, Iowa after an illness.
