Mamrelund Lutheran Church ELCA
410 Eastern Ave.
Stanton, IA 51573
Email: mamrelnd@netins.net
The Mamrelund Church was founded in 1870 by Rev. Bengt Magnus Halland. Rev. Halland founded the town of Stanton that same year as a place for Swedish immigrants to settle in America. Later he would go on to organize many other churches in Montgomery county. The name "Mamrelund" is Swedish for the "Oaks of Mamre" mentioned in the book of Genesis as a place where Abram settled and built an altar to worship. Immigrants remembered this when they found a grove of oak trees out on the prairie and chose that site for the church and the town. Today Mamrelund Church has just over 800 members.
