The Algonquin Hills Subdivision was developed in l926 by Frank E. Merril & Co. The subdivision was comprised of 5 units but since that time unit 5 has been vacated.
The subdivision contains one City Park at the corner of Getzelman and Pioneer. It also has a number of common interest properties including 3 Venetian Channels, two parks on N. Harrison, a private boat launch, a riverside picnic lot, a nature trail, and an 830' Beach along the Fox River "for the use of all lot owners in Frank E. Merrils Algonquin Hills Subdivision (Units 1-5) McHenry County Recorders Book of Plats # 5,p.71
The subdivision also has an active Homeowner's Association. Although membership is not mandatory, AHIA (The Algonquin Hills Improvement Association) includes all lot owners in its membership. The Association Sponsors Neighborhood Watch, a gravel and grading program for the private roads, a welcome bag program and much more . AHIA was incorporated in l937 and is one of the oldest Homeowner's Associations in the Village. To find out more look us up at http://user.mc.net/~wmnutt/ )still doesnt work. Algonquin Hills is a subdivision of the Village of Algonquin. I believe it was one of the first "subdivisions" as we know them. It originally consisted mainly of summer cottages for people who lived in Chicago.
Algonquin was once "THE resort" for the City. The area has a rich history. For instance, did you know that the man who developed the "Pinkertons" later to become the Secret Service was from Algonquin?
Our subdivision lies along the river and we have many residents who enjoy water related activities.
