Looking for my family
I am trying to find my family on my mother's side. My mother, Ivy Williams, nee Bloor, had a cousin who she used to write to in the 1950's who lived in East Gillespie, Illinois. Her husband was presumably called Mike as he owned Mike's Tavern in East
Gillespie. We have a pair of nail cutters with the area printed on and a photo of the Tavern taken in the 1950's.
My mother, died when she was 53 in 1973, but her husband, my father, Ted Williams, who is 85, does not remember the cousin's name. He is suffering from Parkinson's disease and forgets a lot now. He is 85.
Ted (Dad) did go to see my grandfather's (Richard Henry Bloor from Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs) two sisters off on the Queen Mary around 1946 from England when they emigrated. My grandfather was from Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent and married Ann Elizabeth Mee. One of my great Aunts married a widow and moved with his family to California. Although I am no relation to that family, it would be good to get in touch with any of them.
I would really like to get in touch with my mum's cousin and her family in East Gillispie though as they are family. I remember receiving clothes parcels when I was about 7 yrs old. One in particular was a ladybird pink skirt with white stars on it. It was much too bright for where we lived but I loved it. I, therefore, feel that she must have had a daughter about two years older than me so she will be about 52 yrs old now.
I wish I had more information but that passed with my mum and her sisters, Ann and Cath. I, therefore, would like to ask if anyone in East Gillespie can remember the family and Mike's Tavern?
If so, please email me at:
