Recollections of time in Marine, Illinois
During the early 1960's, Marine, Illinois was host to one of the half-dozen surface-to-air missile sites housing Nike-Hercules missiles as part of the St. Louis Defense under the Army Air Defense Command (ARADCOM), which was headquartered at Scott Air Force Base. Many local citizens enlisted in the US Army with an option to be stationed at one of these bases near their home.

I spent approximately a year there, and really enjoyed the local environment and culture. Most significant of my memories was attending a carnival which came to Marine, and to which I had the privilege of escorting the twin daughters of Chief Warrant Officer Dan Sorenson whom I worked under at the base. (P.S. His daughters were approximately ten years of age, and I had a GREAT time!)

Looking for my Great-Grandfather
The 1865 census in Madison County listed a Samuel Dunlap and family in Marine. I had a great-grandfather born in Illinois around Oct 14 or 16 of 1861 or 1862. I think he was from Madison County. His name was Sigel S. Dunlap. When he married in St. Louis, Mo in March of 1884, he said his parents were both dead at that time.
Can anyone help me? If so, please email or send info by mail. Thank you!
