History & History Related Items Monmouth history: The naming of Monmouth has an interesting story. The early settlers, mostly friends of founder John Talbot and his cousin, Allen Andrews, came here in 1928. When the new community needed a name, three choices were placed in a hat. The first one drawn was Kosciusko which all agreed was too hard to spell so it was rejected. Among the two remaining names, Isabella and Monmouth, Monmouth was chosen and thus the town was named.
