Here is a history page for Princeville.
Daniel Prince came to this area, built a home on the prairie just west of the Illinois River. He was a conservationist who plowed furrows and burned the grass before everything was dry to prevent massive prairie fires from endangering his home and trees.
Later, on 22 June 1837, town founders, William C. Stevens, Benjamin Clark and Jesse M. McCuthen honored Prince's contribution to the settling of the area by naming the new town after him. Daniel Prince left the area just two years later when he said, "things were just too crowded for his taste."
