Sterling history:

Sterling is one of the cities in northern Illinois with the longest history of Mexican settlement: the Latin American Social Club was established in 1950 by WWII veterans of Mexican descent, and the annual September Fiesta has been a community institution since the 1940s. In 1999 a 5-panel mural was commissioned and painted by Chicago artists to commemorate the Latino and Mexican American history of Sterling.
