Joseph Louis Kertesz
My grandfather was Joseph Louis KERTESZ. He was one of the original members of the Gary Police Force, c 1908. He rose to the rank of detective sergarent in January 1911. He retired from the force in January 1922 due to health reasons and died in May 1922 from TB.
He married Elizabeth 'Rose' ASZMONGYA. They had nine children: Joseph, Gustav, Elizabeth, Eugene, Ben, Madeline (Lena); Louis, William Joseph, and John.
Joseph kept the family name of Kertesz; however, others in the family took the name of Curtis, Curtiss, or Kertis.
